I’m taking the family to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. We’re off tomorrow morning at 6AM. The kids are pumped to spend some time at the beach and I’m ready to take a break from work and the daily grind. So yes, I will be as lazy as possible at the beach house. As long as we survive the plane ride with our 3 and 5 year olds and don’t get too sun burnt I’m sure it will be a blast. We went to the same spot 3 years back and have been looking forward to returning.

As with most people, December was far too busy for me this year. (It sure seems to me that life for the average person continues to get more hectic each generation. I don’t want to imagine what a day will be like 20 years from now.) Anyhoo, amidst all the craziness of the holiday season (shopping, decorating, family events, etc) I made my way to LA, Las Vegas and Atlanta. Three separate trips before the holidays.

I actually enjoy travel, especially when an internet marketing conference is involved. Getting out of Utah in the winter ain’t half bad either, but I’m calling it quits until next year.

My Uncle Bill passed away yesterday. He was barely over 60, but was slowed down by a rapidly progressing lung disease. He’s one of those guys that I just couldn’t imagine dying young. He served many years in the military and stayed in great shape his entire life. He also had a long and successful career at HP where he eventually retired much earlier than most.

My mom called me and asked me to fly out for a funeral in Atlanta a few days before Christmas because the doctor had told her repeatedly that he wouldn’t make it through the night. Luckily he held on and I was able to fly in and say goodbye. I spent a few days with relatives before making my way back to Utah. The airports were a nightmare, but thankfully I made it back to Utah and my family on Christmas Eve.

Some trip highlights:

Each taxi cab driver enlightened my mind with a new dirty joke

One of the more “well spoken” cab drivers ripped on the hotel I stayed in

I got sick from eating too much at the Wynn Casino buffet. At least I didn’t puke like one of my co-workers, Bryan Phelps

I flew out there this past week for a conference, Webmaster World (PubCon). Hopefully I don’t have to go back until the next PubCon.
